WE ARE HIRING
ManMade Group is a mental health counseling group practice in beautiful Downtown Maryville.
We are dedicated to supporting the unique mental health needs of teen and adult men, helping them navigate the complexities of life with a focus on emotional well-being, personal growth, and family relationships. We believe that addressing men's mental health is crucial for building stronger communities.
We are hiring one full-time mental health counselor to join our group practice this summer (June 2026). We are accepting applications from compassionate and skilled Licensed Professional Counselors, Social Workers, or Marriage and Family Therapists. To apply, please send your resume and cover letter to hello@manmadegroup.com.
Why Join Our Group:
We believe therapy is most powerful when it's rooted in connection — not just between therapist and client, but also among the providers who choose to walk this path together. Private practice doesn't have to mean isolation. Going solo means carrying everything alone — the business, the insurance credentialing, the isolation of clinical work without trusted colleagues, and the grind of building a caseload from zero. We've built the infrastructure so you don't have to. We promote a collaborative, supportive, and light-hearted work environment and encourage counselors’ unique therapeutic styles.
What You Get Here:
Established referral stream — you won't be starting from scratch
A niche that actually fills caseloads (men's mental health and teen work are underserved in the Maryville/Blount County area)
Collegial consultation without having to seek it out yourself
Administrative and billing support so you can focus on clinical work
Flexibility and autonomy — this isn't a corporate clinic
Opportunity to create and facilitate meaningful therapeutic programming with an established team and resources behind you
The Work:
Our focus areas are men's mental health, adolescent counseling, and family systems. You don't have to have worked exclusively in these areas, but genuine interest in working with men and teens is essential. This population is often harder to reach but more rewarding when you do.
Clinical Caseload: Maintain a balanced caseload (25 client contact hours per week) of individual, family, and/or couple's sessions, primarily focused on teens, adult men, and their families.
Program Development: Design and lead innovative, non-traditional therapeutic functions (e.g., wilderness excursions, men's groups, skills workshops) that reinforce clinical objectives.
High Autonomy: Manage your own schedule and caseload with high independence. We provide the infrastructure; you provide the initiative and clinical excellence.
Collaboration: Work with like-minded therapists on our team and a dedicated admin but primarily operate as a self-managed expert in your domain.
Documentation: Maintain timely and ethical clinical documentation.
What We're Looking For:
Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a supportive but independent environment. This person is either seeking to enter private practice or is already in private practice but wants support with administrative functions (e.g., marketing, billing, credentialing), collaboration with other therapists, and to be part of a collective that allows opportunities to grow professionally beyond the therapy room.
Licensure: Fully licensed as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT in the state of Tennessee (or license-eligible with a clear plan for immediate licensure).
Niche Interest: Demonstrates passion, and some experience preferred, for working with teens, men's issues, and complex family dynamics.
Self-Reliance is Non-Negotiable: You must be highly capable of working independently, managing your time, and driving your own success without constant oversight. We don't want to be your boss, we want to be your partner.
The "Outside" Mindset: A genuine enthusiasm for developing and implementing therapeutic functions and groups outside of standard individual talk therapy. Tell us what you want to build, and we will provide structure and support.
Ethical & Authentic: Committed to ethical practice, authenticity, and straightforward communication. No fluff.
Teamwork: Someone who wants to be part of a team, not just occupy a suite.
Compensation & Structure:
Competitive Compensation Plan: We operate on a fee-split model that rewards a higher caseload while emphasizing work-life balance. We are transparent and will openly discuss how we approach the structure and differences between being an employee or contractor — we are open to both.
Benefits: Monthly contribution of $250 to a Health Reimbursement Account.
Flexibility: This is not a Monday through Friday, 9 to 5 job. We encourage our team to set their own hours as they work their way up to a caseload of 25 clients per week on average.
Office Space in a Great Location: With your own fully furnished office, you can create a space where you and your clients feel safe and comfortable. Located in Downtown Maryville, we are close to the Maryville Greenway which is beneficial for walk-and-talks and more dynamic therapy approaches.
Individual Development and Unlimited Support: You always have access to practice owner, Shawn Helvey, LPC-MHSP, to offer meaningful feedback based on your experiences and challenges. An office manager handles all billing, claim submission, scheduling, and marketing.
About Practice Owner, Shawn Helvey, LPC-MHSP
Clinical Director, Shawn Helvey, has over a decade of experience working with adolescents and adults using an eclectic combination of approaches ranging from adventure-based/wilderness therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Integrative Mental Health, Relationship-Based Therapy, and more.
In addition to owning his own solo and group private practice for close to 10 years, he has worked in wilderness therapy and agency settings. He is passionate about developing the next generation of mental health counselors and has been a clinical supervisor since 2019.
There is a need for more mental health services for men in Maryville and the surrounding rural communities. He hopes to attract counselors that are passionate about working with this population.
